This is a stunner of an appellation cuvée. Rounded aromas of black cherry, freshly pulverized mace and cinnamon-laced cream draw in the nose. The palate is lush and lovable with rich strawberry, sumac, achiote and more cinnamon, as a fine line of earth adds minerality.

The appellation 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills shines for its Burgundian-like complexity and nuance. Crisp black cherries, cranberries, ground pepper, and forest floor notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins and a great finish. It can be enjoyed today but will benefit from a year or two in bottle and keep through 2031.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills comes from several different vineyards, including Bentrock, Radian and La Encantada. It was vinified with 45% whole clusters and matured in 14% new oak. It has pure aromas of cranberry, blackberry, wildflowers, orange peel and gravel dust. The light-bodied palate is silky and bright with a deep core of crunchy red berry fruit and a long, fragrant finish. 903 cases were made.

The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a blend of Rancho La Vina, Bentrock, Radian, Our Lady of Guadalupe and La Encantada. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and blood orange all run through the 2021. A dollop of whole clusters adds presence without being in any way intrusive. This is a fabulous introduction to the Pinots here.
