Quite juicy in feel, with licorice, bramble and cherry compote notes backed by a light cinnamon thread on the finish. Drink now. 1,300 cases imported.

One of this esteemed house's basic Ports, and it's by no means hard to enjoy. Some strawberry and red fruit on the young, rubbery nose. Tangy, with the requisite sweetness in the form of brown sugar. There's a dark coffee note on the finish.

The NV King's Tawny Porto is a three-year-old blend bottled in 2014. This is an entry-level tawny. Obviously, you don't find some things here that you find in the big boys. It has little concentration, little richness and modest power. Admittedly, at times it seems a bit watery compared to top tawnies. But there is a context and in the right moment you'll like it better than the score suggests. At the anticipated price level on the street, it offers value as a house pour. It drinks nicely, tastes good and can easily be chilled down a bit for a laid back drink. Most tawnies age well, but this wasn't in barrel very long, so drink it young, however long it can theoretically last.
