Leaving Pinot Gris on its skins prior to fermentation provides a stunning salmon-pink hue, along with great structure. Bright aromas of peach, pear and orange peel develop into lavender, almond and rose petal on the nose. The entry on the palate carries flavors of green tea, plum, wild ginger and delicate apricot. The luscious texture and voluminous mouthfeel allow for a lingering finish of crisp, clementine.

I love the L'Orange, even though it baffles most of my friends. It is a Muscat Ottonel-Pinot Gris mix that fermented on skins in amphorae and stainless steel. It is medium-bodied, with sturdy tannins and aromas and flavors of plumeria, honeysuckle, macadamia nuts, pink grapefruit and orange-flavored chewable vitamins.

The 2022 L'Orange, a skin-contact blend of 55% Pinot Gris and 45% Muscat Ottonel, opens with an earthy bouquet, blending flowery underbrush with musky dried peaches. It soothes with its round textures and ripe pit fruits, coming across as pure and perfumed in style. The 2022 tapers off with medium length and a gentle tinge of spice.
