The property was acquired by George Thienpont in 1946. He then replanted the vines towards the end of the 1970's. From 1983 onwards, his son Nicolas began making the wine and Chateau Puygueraud was quickly becoming one of the flagship estates of the Côtes de Francs. For several years, and with the assistance of his grandson Cyrille, the wine attained greater precision and a nobler expression.
Exceptionally this year, the Puygueraud blend does not include malbecs because they are being restructured.

Aromas of blackberries, dried lavender, black olives, tobacco, herbs and some smoked meat. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Layered and concentrated with a sleek, savory finish. 85% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 3% malbec.

This is great stuff and highly drinkable with a wonderful richness on the nose and palate. It’s pretty fierce in fact and has real impact with the austerity of the mid palate quickly filled out by rich sweet black cherry fruit and a deeply spiced finish.
